Biography

Stephanie Lowe is a full-time figurative artist living in the coastal mountains of British Columbia, Canada.

Born in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, just 70 kilometers from New York City, Lowe experienced firsthand the power of art for children living with trauma. “The City” with its rich arts and culture scene, just a short train ride from her home, certainly gave her strength and shaped her creative and political spirit.

As an adult, Lowe found herself on the move with her partner of 40 years, living in or near some of the most important art areas in the United States: Kansas City, Miami, Cleveland and Los Angeles. With her three small children in tow, Lowe has spent a lifetime in art museums and art studios. Professionally Lowe was using her organizational skills working with nonprofit political organizations, activities that ultimately led her to the White House in 1992.

A published writer and art lover, Lowe held a well-wedged ball of clay for the first time in Cleveland, Ohio and it changed everything. Obtaining a Bachelors in Fine Art with a focus in sculpture from the University of Central Florida, Lowe studied with Sculptor and Icelandic National Treasure Johan Eiffells as well as prominent printmaker and draftsman Robert Rivers. Lowe credits Eiffells with her understanding of the boundaries and rules in art and how to break them.

After graduation Lowe worked full time as an artist developing her trademark narrative figure style which helped to fuse her love of storytelling, current affairs and art.

However, after years of studio work and exhibition success and with her own children grown, Lowe’s personal history found her drawn to sharing art with underserved children. Next up was a California Single Subject Teaching Credential and perhaps the most rewarding work of her life in her Venice, California art classroom teaching underserved, first generation, sometimes undocumented teens.

Upon retiring from her classroom in 2018, Lowe relocated with her Canadian American partner to Canada and returned to pursue her studio practice and Canadian Citizenship. in 2023, Lowe joined her husband and three children as a dual citizen of the USA and Canada.
