Making good art necessitates honesty. Lowe’s work bridges conceptual approaches with the creation of figurative ceramics. These are descriptive narratives that are richly embedded with symbolism while leaving room for the viewer’s own interpretations. The ceramic busts and characters are infused with complex psychological elements revealing subtle visual cues that evoke the uncertainty of our fragile social encounters in what is an increasingly toxic, diminished, and damaged world.

Art is about perception. Lowe’s work is an invitation to consider how alternate realities are construed in a world where the truth seems radically absent. We are challenged to notice peculiarities, ambiguities and the nonsensical where all is not as it may initially appear. Perhaps the work shocks us into waking up from our Alice in Wonderland complacency. The work is almost reminiscent of the Theatre of the Absurd but uses humour instead of despair to deliver the important message.
